Alexandra Dudley loves a good story.  In her debut book, ‘Land and Sea’, the author, artist and entrepreneur uses her love for narrative to take readers on a culinary journey and bring her recipes to life.    Alexandra takes much of her inspiration from memories in her mother’s kitchen and her Dutch and German heritage.  She has a relaxed approach to cooking, using wholesome ingredients and making the most of leftovers.

A talented content creator, Alexandra has worked with brands including Fevertree, Belazu and 100% Natural Foods.  She holds a BA in Fine Art from City and Guilds of London and her artwork includes paintings, illustration and thread work.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My days vary hugely. I could be cooking for an event, styling a shoot or even hosting an event.

Describe a memorable moment in your life.

There’ve been many but one of my favourite moments was the first time I saw the Louvre. I was with two school friends and we’d clubbed together to buy tickets for a mutual friend to take her to Paris. We arrived late afternoon and it was already getting dark. The Louvre was all lit up and there wasn’t a soul there. It was truly magical.

Talk me through a hobby of yours

I love to make art and draw. I often draw when I am at home.

Who or what inspires you?

A lot inspires me. In food, it is often through travel or eating out that I am inspired. I love eating the food of different cultures and pairing elements with local ingredients I can get at home. In art, I am usually inspired by my own feelings as well as little things i might notice. It could be a lemon or a fish.

Do you collect anything?

I collect ceramics. I love buying hand made goods and love the element of craft in pottery. I have a shelf at home reserved for all my ceramics and I've just had to expand to a second shelf.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in London but spent a lot of time in Norfolk by the sea. My granny lived there and now my father is based there. I also spent a lot of time in the Swiss mountains.

Have you moved around?

I lived in Switzerland briefly when I was 13 for almost a year.  We lived in a town, which I didn’t love as much as London but I loved being so close to the mountains.

What is your work space like?

At the moment, very messy. I try to keep my kitchen table for eating and use a small desk in the corner for writing and working. The last few months have been incredibly busy though, and my kitchen table has become somewhat of a dumping ground. I often work in Soho House too, or coffee shops to get some distance between my work and home life.
