From Miu Miu’s baker boy caps to Dior’s leather berets, hats reigned supreme at the AW 2017 fashion shows.  And with Christmas less than a week away, we’ve pulled together some festive-appropriate outfits to team with your crowning glory.

1. Velvet

Velvet has been revived this season.  Gucci, Max Mara and Prada celebrated the lush fabric in their AW 2017 collections, cementing it as the trend to back this winter.  If you still have a Christmas work do coming up, team a velvet jumpsuit with a charcoal beret for effortlessly cool party-wear.

2. Red

Santa will be pleased to hear that red is officially this season’s most celebrated hue.  If you’re feeling brave, wear head to toe scarlet a la Givenchy, or for a more pared down look, add monochrome and neutral staples.

3. Woollen Checks

Wool and checks are familiar winter go-tos.  But why not take inspiration from Prada and wear them with embellished hemlines or sparkly accessories.  Pop on some gold-trimmed trainers and you’re set for a stylish Boxing Day stroll.

4. Corduroy

Denim has a rival this winter.  Corduroy.  The practical fabric with a nod to the Seventies is making a come back.  A needlepoint cord dress with dramatic drop earrings makes perfect Christmas dinner attire.  As does an antique pink pinafore dress layered over a floral blouse. Christmas hat not optional!

5. Sequins

Sequins are set to make their mark next spring but with the festive season upon us, we’re keen for some sparkle now.  Tom Ford dazzled New York SS 2018 Fashion Week with his evening gowns while Stuart Vevers teamed glistening midi skirts with biker jackets.  Why not wear sequins this New Year’s Eve for a shining start to 2018.
